90-year-old crossing the street dies in hit-and-run in Milwaukee, suspect arrested

A 90-year-old died in a hit-and-run crash on the night of May 10, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.

The crash happened at 9:40 p.m. on the 1000 Block of South 35th Street, located between the Mitchell Park Domes and American Family Field.

The 90-year-old was crossing the street when they were struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. The 90-year-old died on scene despite life-saving measures.

The 41-year-old man who drove the striking vehicle was later identified, located and arrested. The case will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days, police said.

A second serious crash happened May 10, involving a speeding driver that caused a multi-vehicle crash. One person died and others sustained serious injuries.

Milwaukee has long struggled to address reckless driving, though the latest statistics from MPD showed a slight dip in crashes, including hit-and-runs.
