Three people died in two separate overnight shootings in Milwaukee, and two others, including a 15-year-old, were injured in a third shooting.
The first shooting happened around 9:40 p.m. Aug. 8 on the 2100 block of West Pierce Street, just east of Mitchell Park. A 26-year-old and 29-year-old both sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Milwaukee Police Department.
Police then responded to another shooting on the 3400 block of North 39th Street, in the Roosevelt Grove neighborhood, around 10:05 p.m. A 39-year-old sustained fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
A third shooting happened around 1:00 a.m. Aug. 9 on the 2300 block of West Fond du Lac Avenue. A 15-year-old sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. A 34-year-old also arrived at a local hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Police are seeking unknown suspects in all three shootings; anyone with information is asked to contact (414) 935-7360. To stay anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-TIPS or P3 Tips. Police did not immediately say what they think led to the shootings.
Despite the one-day uptick in gun violence, Milwaukee has seen an overall drop in both homicides and nonfatal shootings in the first half of 2026, according to the latest statistics shared by MPD.
So far this year, Milwaukee has seen 67 homicides, compared to 89 at the same time in 2025 and 85 in 2024. Those numbers may not reflect the fatal shootings from this weekend.
As for nonfatal shootings, Milwaukee has recorded 249 so far this year, compared to 344 and 416 during the same time period in 2025 and 2024.
