Deputy uses PIT maneuver to end Fond du Lac County pursuit

FOND DU LAC COUNTY – A 33-year-old North Fond du Lac man was arrested early Aug. 9 after a roughly 3-mile pursuit on Interstate 41 ended when a Fond du Lac County sheriff’s deputy used a PIT maneuver, authorities said.

A deputy first saw the vehicle about 3:52 a.m. traveling south on I-41 near Sales Road in the town of Eldorado.

The vehicle was going below the 70 mph speed limit, weaving between the southbound lanes and driving off the roadway, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said.

The deputy activated emergency lights and siren, but the driver did not stop and continued south at a low speed.

The driver later pulled over briefly on I-41 before driving away again at about 40 mph, according to the sheriff’s office.

Pursuit ended near North Fond du Lac

The vehicle exited onto Winnebago Street, failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of the off-ramp and turned east toward the village of North Fond du Lac.

A deputy ended the pursuit with a pursuit intervention technique maneuver on Winnebago Street near North Pioneer Road. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was taken into custody without further incident, the sheriff’s office said.

Driver suspected of felony eluding

No injuries were reported. The suspect vehicle and squad car sustained minor damage, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man was being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a Winnebago County warrant. The sheriff’s office said he was arrested on suspicion of felony fleeing or eluding, operating while intoxicated and additional traffic citations.

The North Fond du Lac Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted the sheriff’s office.
