I’m surprised that a viable centrist, independent coalition/political party has still not emerged to represent the bulk of the bell curve in America, people like me, and, I suspect, a lot of exasperated readers who would agree.
I’ve mostly voted for one party, but have voted across the aisle more than once when there was a better candidate on the other side. I wish there was somebody out there representing guys like me — a Rockefeller Republican or DLC-type Democrat. You know, somebody that most of us feel is seemingly normalish, like people I grew up with.
Is “normal” too much to ask when they are out there begging for my hard-earned dollars to support their campaign that I can barely recognize as remotely on my side? Both major parties have been largely usurped, sadly, by primary election caliber candidates who appeal only to extremists or naivety on either side.
I crave so intensely — just one more time in my life before the loonies on both sides take over just because they’re the loudest on the Internet or cable TV — to be able to feel really fantastic about casting my precious vote. I want somebody that makes me feel good about who we all are as Americans and Wisconsinites and can restore a feeling that we are not so unclean as we’ve been.
Is the two-party system is a relic from the days when the words “integrity” and “honor” had meaning in the world of representative governance?
