The San Angelo Standard-Times will preview local high school football teams throughout August ahead of the 2025 season.
Water Valley Wildcats

District: 8-1A DI
2025 record: 11-3, 4-0
Head coach: Trey Sisco
Most recent district championship: 2024
What to know
Sisco takes over as the head coach after spending a year as the defensive coordinator and previously leading Sterling City to a state championship in 2020. After starting 2-2 last season, the Wildcats went on a tear to the state semifinal, when they lost 74-54 to Whiteface.
Water Valley returns most of its starters from last season, including quarterback Landon Lacy, who had 1,803 yards and 41 touchdowns passing, adding 792 yards and 19 touchdowns rushing. Another returning senior is Boston Wiese, who was the All-West Texas Defensive Player of the Year after recording 198 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, three interceptions and a safety. Sisco said he expects his seniors to lead his football team to another promising year.
Sico said he is excited for newcomer Branson Lacy, who played on the junior varsity, and transfer Rhett Dixon, to make an immediate impact on the team. After being a couple of scores away from a state final appearance for the first time in program history, Sisco said his team is ready to take the next step this season.
The Wildcats had their most successful season in program history last year, and there are plenty of reasons to think they can go further. With another year of practicing and playing as a six-man team, Water Valley has a chance to be special this season with the speed and talent on its roster.
Coach Trey Sisco on the 2025 season
“The kids had a good summer,” Sisco said. “They’re working hard to get some minor things cleared up and getting ready to roll.
“The expectations are here and probably around the state, but we just kind of take it one week at a time, one day at a time, and just try to get better at what we do. And hopefully that’ll pay off down the line when we get in the regular season and move forward from there.”
