Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton overwhelmingly defeated Sen. John Cornyn in the U.S. Senate Republican runoff election on Tuesday night.
Unofficial results from the Texas Secretary of State show that Paxton earned 63.84% of the vote with Cornyn earning 36.16% of the vote with 100% of precincts reporting.
Shortly after being projected the winner, Paxton, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump a week ago, thanked Texas — and set his sights on defeating Texas Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico, who Paxton called “the most well-funded Democrat in America.”
Meanwhile, Talarico called Paxton “the most corrupt politician in America” in a political ad only a few minutes after Paxton was declared the winner.
