WATCH: Cowboys last-chance bookends getting Hall of Fame assist

The Dallas Cowboys know they have issues at the tackle spots in 2026, but are once again confident that quarterback Dak Prescott can overcome an leaky edges. The club has trotted out mediocre performances at both left and right tackle the last two years. 2024 first-round pick Tyler Guyton has not yet lived up to his draft pedigree at left tackle, but the team is allowing him to enter Year 3 uncontested by any veteran competition.

Meanwhile entrenched right tackle Terence Steele took a pay cut this offseason, emblematic of his inability to ascend to the top of his trade. It seems that both are getting one last chance to prove their worth this season before the front office decides to turn the page. So what is the team doing to help them succeed? Calling in future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith, of course.

As the club has convened for their first OTAs of the offseason, the organized team activities happened Monday and Tuesday before a one-day break on Wednesday. But it wasn’t a break for everyone as Guyton, Steele and others from the tackle group took some drill work from Smith, the legendary left tackle who played for the Cowboys from 2011 to 2023.

Smith made seven-straight Pro Bowls at one point in his tremendous career, in the running as the top tackle in the game for many years. Injuries began to take their toll, but the former USC product’s abilities were always well regarded.
