Two Dallas Cowboys players have a chance to put themselves in the NFL record books this weekend when they face off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
Quarterback Dak Prescott and tight end Jake Ferguson are both on milestone watch as the Cowboys look to improve their season against the winless Jets.
Prescott enters the game leading the league with 121 completions. He has thrown for at least 30 completions in each of the past three contests, putting him on the verge of joining an exclusive quarterback group.
With another performance of 30 completions or more on Sunday, Prescott would become the fourth passer in NFL history to reach that mark in four consecutive games. Only Tom Brady, Kirk Cousins, and Patrick Mahomes have previously done so, with Brady holding the longest streak at five in 2022.
Ferguson, meanwhile, has been one of the league’s busiest tight ends, leading the league with 34 catches through four games. If he records at least six more receptions against New York, Ferguson would become the fourth tight end ever to haul in 40 or more passes through his team’s first five games.
That achievement has only been matched by Zach Ertz in 2018, Eric Johnson in 2004, and Hall of Famer Antonio Gates in 2007.
The matchup appears favorable for Dallas, as the Jets have yet to win and continue to struggle with missed tackles and defensive breakdowns. Prescott and Ferguson could find plenty of opportunities against a unit that has ranked near the bottom in points allowed. Still, New York’s offense, led by Justin Fields and Breece Hall, has shown stretches of explosiveness, meaning the Cowboys cannot afford lapses in focus after an emotional tie with Green Bay last week.
Fans can watch Prescott and Ferguson chase history when the Cowboys visit the Jets on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.
