An aviation instructor and a student were hospitalized after a small single-engine plane crashed near the Corpus Christi International Airport on April 13.

The plane crashed shortly before 7:15 p.m. in the area of Highway 44 near Clarkwood Road, said Jeremy Valgardson, assistant director of aviation, operations and maintenance for the airport.
The aircraft was owned by Splendid Aviation, an aviation school in Corpus Christi, according to a Facebook post by the company.
“While on approach, the aircraft came into contact with power lines,” the post said. “The instructor and student on board were taken to local hospitals, and our thoughts are with them as they receive care.”
The instructor and the student were transported to San Antonio for specialized medical care, Splendid Aviation said on Facebook the morning of April 14.
Valgardson said information about the crash was limited until the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board conduct investigations.
