Amaya Williams, a former star girls basketball player at Eastwood High School, is headed to the Division I level back in Texas.
Williams signed to play at Division 1 UT-Arlington following two standout seasons at Lamar Community College in Colorado, where she developed into one of the team’s top offensive weapons and a consistent all-around contributor.
During the 2025-26 season, Williams started 25 games and averaged 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. For her efforts, Williams was named a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American.
During the 2024-25 campaign, Williams averaged 15.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, further showcasing her versatility and growth over her two-year junior college career.
At Eastwood, as a senior, she was an El Paso-Times’ All-City first team selection and was named to the Texas Girls Coaches All-State team. As a junior at Eastwood, she averaged 14 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
“To be able to get the opportunity to play at the Division I level at UT-Arlington is amazing,” Williams said. “The hard work and belief in myself paid off. The two years in junior college really help me grow. We had success as a team and that helped. I feel good about UT-Arlington and it’s a good spot for me.”
Eastwood HS girls basketball coach Irene Falk-Ramirez, who coached Williams in high school, isn’t surprised that her former player is getting the opportunity to play at the Division I level.
“Amaya has worked so hard to get where she is at,” Falk-Ramirez said. “She is a tremendous offensive player and she’s expanded on her game so much in the past few years. Amaya will continue to do great things at the next level.”
