Texas Tech continues to stack the roster each season, and the team’s inclusion on the 2027 Shriners Children’s East-West Bowl 1000 watch list is further proof. A total of 26 Red Raiders were named to the list, most of any program in the country. Next on the list were the Indiana Hoosiers (22), LSU Tigers (21), and the Ole Miss Rebels, Texas Longhorns, and Texas A&M Aggies tied (20 each).
It just goes to show how the Texas Tech football front office continues to rebuild this roster each season with immense talent.
The full list, position by position
It is split right down the middle between offense and defense for the Red and Black. There are 13 players on defense and 13 players on offense. That would have been 27 total with a 14-13 split in favor of the offense; however, we removed Brendan Sorsby from the original list.
Why this matters beyond the watch list for Texas Tech
This list signals just how loaded the current Red Raiders roster is, and how far above the rest of the Big 12 competition they are. Colorado and Texas Christian were second on the list in the conference with 12 each. These players can’t punch their ticket to Frisco, Texas, next January just yet, but they are players to keep an eye on. For both fans and NFL front offices. NFL scouts assisted the Shrine Bowl with identifying the players, so they are already aware.
Texas Tech not only is deep in terms of talent, but they are deep with pro-caliber talent. This is why Tech is favored to win the Big 12 title again and return to the College Football Playoffs. Head coach Joey McGuire is showing that it isn’t one superstar that carries the weight in West Texas. This is about making a statement on the brand of football they will play at Galaxy Stadium. It all begins on Sept. 5.
With a total of 26 names on this watchlist, Texas Tech is ready to prove last year wasn’t a fluke. This team is ready to stake its claim as the kings of the Big 12.
