Texas Tech golf 4th, inside cut line going to final round of Urbana Regional

Calum Scott broke 70 for the second day in a row, shooting 2-under-par 69 and helping the Texas Tech men’s golf team stay inside the cut line after the second round of the NCAA Urbana Regional on Tuesday, May 13.

The Red Raiders dropped from second place starting the day to fourth at the end. After the final round on Wednesday, May 14, the top five teams and the lowest-scoring individual not on those teams advance to the NCAA championships final competition from May 23-28 in Carlsbad, California.

There are six 54-hole regionals across the country.

Tim Wiedemeyer’s even-par 71, Connor Graham’s 73 and Ben Gregg’s 74 also counted toward Texas Tech’s second-round team score of 3-over 287. The Red Raiders’ discard score was Charles DeLong’s 76.

Illinois is playing on its home course, hosting the regional at Atkins Golf Club in Urbana, Illinois. The Illini are taking advantage of it as 36-hole leaders at 10-under. No. 1 regional seed Oklahoma State and UNLV are tied for second at 7-under. After Tech, the last team inside the cut line is Troy, fifth at 1-under.

Marquette will start the final round at 4-over and No. 2 regional seed North Carolina at 9-over. Illinois State and Pacific are 10-over.

UNLV’s Caden Fioroni leads the medalist chase at 7-under through 36 holes, one stroke better than 18-hole leader Jackson Buchanan from Illinois and Hunter Thomson from Michigan. Scott’s one of four players at 5-under.

Wiedemeyer’s even-par, Gregg 1-over, Graham 2-over and DeLong 5-over.
