The Texas Tech Red Raiders have one of the best recruiting classes in the nation right now, sitting with the No. 6 group in the 2027 cycle, headlined by a pair of 5-star players and a lot of blue-chip prospects. However, as we get closer to signing day, others are trying to pick some talent from the top.
Over the weekend, 5-star defensive end Anthony Sweeney took an official visit to the LSU Tigers, throwing his commitment to the Red Raiders somewhat in question. Sweeney, who has been committed to the Red Raiders since April 13 of this year, posted photos of his visit to Baton Rouge, and had some glowing things to say about the experience.
“It’s definitely a big culture shock compared to a lot of other places,” Sweeney told 247Sports. “I feel like there’s no other spot like Louisiana.”
Sweeney stands at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, and is rated as the No. 20 overall player and No. 3 EDGE in the class, per 247Sports. Despite his recent visit, the elite pass-rusher said that he does not currently have any plans to flip his commitment.
“I’m still sticking with Tech,” Sweeney said.
It’s one thing to say, but another thing to stick to. There are just under six months remaining until National Signing Day, so the road to climb may be long and arduous for Texas Tech when it comes to keeping Sweeney.
