Texas State football: No players selected for preseason All-Sun Belt

The Sun Belt announced Monday the selections for its preseason awards and coaches poll.

In it, the ranking has Texas State football finishing second in West Division and third overall in the Sun Belt, behind No. 1 James Madison in the East and No. 2 Louisiana in the West. But not a single Bobcat earned Preseason All-Sun Belt first or second team honors.

Granted, Texas State coach GJ Kinne saw his roster undergo a massive overhaul in the offseason, with 20 players departing through the transfer portal and even more exhausting their eligibility. Only a few returners had the production and experience that would warrant all-conference honors.

At the end of 2024, running back Ismael Mahdi and wide receiver Joey Hobert were the only Bobcats chosen to the All-Sun Belt First Team. In the offseason, Mahdi transferred to Arizona while the Seattle Seahawks invited Hobert to their rookie minicamp after he went undrafted.

Texas State left tackle Dorion Strawn is entering his final year of college and was the Bobcats’ second-highest rated offensive lineman in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus. Defensive end Kalil Alexander is coming off a season in which he led the Bobcats in sacks (6.5), quarterback hurries (26) and tackles for loss (11.5).
