Although the 2025 college baseball campaign is less than a week old, Dylan Volantis is already adding to his trophy case. The Longhorns star was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday following a stellar season debut against UC Davis. On Sunday, the talented lefty showed why he is one of the best pitchers in the country.
With Texas looking to secure its first sweep of the season, Volantis held UC Davis hitless into the sixth inning. He ended his day with eight strikeouts in seven scoreless innings of work. The Longhorns sophomore allowed one hit, picking up where he left off last year.
While Volantis has been a human highlight reel since setting foot in Austin, he is entering unfamiliar territory. His latest masterpiece was only his second career start. He spent most of last season in the bullpen, posting a 1.94 ERA in 51 games. If the Thousand Oaks native can replicate that dominance as a starter, the Longhorns rotation will be in good hands.
Sunday’s honor marked Volantis ‘ third career weekly league award of his career. The Westlake High alum collected a pair of SEC Freshman of the Week honors last year. His focus now, as he looks to prove his worth as a starter, is to help the Longhorns win a national title.
Through their first four games, the Longhorns have looked nearly unstoppable as the offense has scored runs in bunches. They have also gotten a boost for a pitching staff that is full of talent and can rack up strikeouts with ease. Their success will be vital to the Longhorns making a deep playoff run.
In his first outing of the season, Volantis showed that his freshman season was just the start of what could be a special career in Austin.
