2027 5-star TE commits to LSU over Texas A&M, Nebraska

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and new tight ends coach Derek Shay are on the right page when it comes to evaluating talent, and as soon as the transfer portal opened, the Aggies added former UTSA TE Houston Thomas and Fresno State transfer tight end Richie Anderson after Theo Melin-Örström transferred to SMU.

Joining redshirt freshman tight end Kiotti Armstrong and senior Micah Riley, Texas A&M’s 2026 TE rotation is a work in progress, and while this group will look to match what Nate Boerkircher brought as an elite in-line blocker and steady receiver during his one and only year in the program before being drafted 56th overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Looking ahead, Texas A&M freshmen tight ends KK Johnson, Caleb Tafua, and Evan Jacobson all possess the traits to become starters, especially Tafua, who Mike Elko praised as one of the more natural receivers given his background as a volleyball player.

In the 2027 class, the Aggies have yet to sign a tight end prospect, and as of Sunday, the No. 1-ranked tight end in the cycle, five-star Ahmad Hudson, committed to LSU over Texas A&M, Nebraska, and others after including the Aggies in his Top 6 program list back in March.

Texas A&M basketball coach Bucky McMillan also fielded an offer to Hudson, who stands nearly 6’7″ and over 240 pounds, possessing elite hands and athleticism, and could play both sports with the Tigers. Texas A&M was never the favorite to land Hudson, but now knowing that he is headed to the Tigers, Elko and Shay will now veer their attention elsewhere.
