The Cleveland Browns opted to move on from veteran tight end, former Pro Bowler, and former first rounder David Njoku this afternoon. After his departure, the Browns selected two more tight ends in the 2026 NFL Draft, adding Cincinnati’s Joe Royer and BYU’s Carsen Ryan to their roster.
That likely shut the door on any sort of reunion between the Browns and Njoku in 2027.
And it appears Njoku realizes that as well, as he has visited with another team after the draft. The Los Angeles Chargers hosted the former Browns’ fan favorite on a free agency visit this past week, potentially looking to add another tight end to their roster.
A look at the Browns’ tight end room without Njoku
Without Njoku on the roster, the Browns will have to turn to their young room. And who plays the true in-line tight role will be an interesting positional battle to watch. Harold Fannin Jr. will obviously be the emphasis of the room, but given his inability to block routinely, the door is open for Royer or Ryan to find a significant role in the first year of their NFL career.
Veterans Blake Whitehart and Jack Stoll round out that room.
