Oxnard man dies after being struck by SUV near Five Points

A 51-year-old Oxnard man died after being struck by a vehicle as he crossed the road late May 2.

Officers with the Oxnard Police Department responded to the crash between an SUV and a pedestian around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Wooley Road and Commercial Avenue, near Five Points, according to an agency news release.

The man was lying in the eastbound lanes of Wooley Road and suffered major injuries, police officials said. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on their preliminary investigation, officers said the man was walking across Wooley Road just west of Commercial Avenue when he was struck by the SUV headed west on Wooley Road. The man landed in the eastbound lanes.

The 21-year-old driver from Oxnard remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Impairment is not suspected, and the investigation is ongoing, police said in the news release.
