Donald Trump, Kai Trump watch Cadillac Championship at Doral

DORAL — Donald Trump arrived at the Cadillac Championship about 30 minutes after the leaders teed off, being escorted out of the hotel at Trump National Doral and into the Trump Suite on the 18th green.

The president was accompanied by his granddaughter, Kai Trump, the former Benjamin School golfer who will join the University of Miami golf team, and her father, Donald Trump Jr.

Trump made the walk from the hotel to his suite mostly in silence with very few fans in the area. After a smattering of cheers as he approached the suite, he waived at the top of the stairs before any other cheers.

The tournament has been sparsely attended, a combination of being late in the season for a golf event in South Florida and the rain that fell on the area early in the day. More rain was forecasted for later in the afternoon.

Trump pushed up his schedule ahead by several hours, much like the tournament did, because of weather. He was scheduled to arrive at the tournament at 3 p.m. and head back to Washington D.C. from Miami on Air Force One in the evening.

With his flight time changed to 2 p.m., he arrived to watch some golf about 12:15 p.m. Patrick Rodgers, Jason Day and Maverick McNealy were on No. 18 when he arrived.

The start of the final round was delayed because of rain.

Golfers teed off at 9:30 a.m. in threesome from the 1st and 10th tees. The final group of leader Cameron Young (-15), Scottie Scheffler (-9) and Si Woo Kim is schedule teed off at 11:42.

Times were moved up May 2, with the first group scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m., in hopes of crowning a champion on May 3. With the delay and heavier rain expected late in the afternoon, the Tour just is hoping to crown a champion without having to extend the tournament by a day.
