When investigators arrived, they found two men suffering gunshot wounds. They were taken to separate hospitals and are expected to survive, police said.

Officials have not released their identities.

Investigators believe the shooting happened inside a vehicle.

Authorities are working multiple scenes connected to the shooting and have deployed a large number of resources and SWAT technology as part of the investigation, including patrol officers, detectives, crime scene investigators, K-9 units and drones.

Detectives have identified persons of interest and are pursuing leads. They are also working to obtain search warrants, police said.

Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said the department is handling the case with urgency but cannot release more details at this time due to the active investigation.

The department will hold a news conference at 4 p.m. May 3 to provide additional information, including possible arrests. It will take place at the Port St. Lucie Police Department, 121 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd.
