No. 9 Texas A&M (39-14, 18-11 SEC) enters Monday’s NCAA Tournament Selection Show hoping that a top-8 national seed is still in play, but after falling to Auburn in the SEC Tournament Quarterfinals, combined with Florida and Southern Miss making deep runs, the Aggies are likely headed towards earning the 10-seed, based on recent projections.
Before Georgia faces Arkansas in the SEC Tournament Championship on Sunday, it’s clear that the Aggies’ 4-6 regular-season finish has likely kept them from earning a national seed, despite finishing the regular season with 18 conference wins, including six SEC series victories.
Still, this roster is beat up, especially with star LHP Aiden Sims and freshman third baseman Nico Partida sidelined, whose combined absences have left the Aggies searching for answers, especially after giving up seven runs and registering just two hits against Auburn on Friday night. However, second-year coach Michael Earley stated last week that he expects Sims to return for the Regional Round, while Partida is also on track to return.
On Sunday, less than 24 hours before every tournament matchup is announced, D1Baseball’s latest NCAA Tournament projections did not change from Saturday’s release, with the Aggies still considered the 10-seed and hosting Oklahoma State, UCLA, and Rider in the College Station Regional.
Texas A&M will find out its postseason fate on Monday, May 25, at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
