Texas A&M baseball’s 2025 Marion Pugh Most Valuable Player is reportedly returning to the program for his junior season in 2026.
According to reports from TexAgs analyst Ryan Brauninger on Tuesday afternoon, outfielder Caden Sorrell will return to gear up in the Maroon and White uniform for his junior season. Although the Highland Village, Texas, native suffered an injury that cut his season short, Sorrell started in all 26 games he appeared in and recorded 32 hits, 32 RBI and 12 homers in that stretch.
The news of Sorrell’s return to Aggieland provides the program with insurance in the outfield next season. Following a lackluster 2025 campaign, retaining the former Freshman All-SEC and Second Team All-American selection gives the Aggies a reliable hitter and a speedster on the basepaths.
Ranked as the No. 19 outfielder in his class by Perfect Game, Sorrell had the opportunity to choose from various schools to attend and begin his collegiate baseball career. He had the chance to go straight to the big leagues and enter the 2023 MLB Draft, but he opted to sign with Texas A&M and play in Bryan-College Station.
During his freshman season in 2024, Sorrell immediately became a fan favorite with his incredible speed and ability to create outstanding at-bats for the Aggies. His contributions helped lead Texas A&M to the College World Series, in which Sorrell ended the season with a 15-game hitting streak.
The departure of outfielder Jace LaViolette to the MLB Draft and freshman Nathan Tobin to the transfer portal makes Sorrell’s return integral to the success of the Texas A&M outfield in 2026. Eight Aggies entered the portal when it opened on June 2, which made for some major holes to fill for second-year head coach Michael Earley.
The declaration of Sorrell’s return following his sophomore year being cut short due to injury provides a huge boost for Texas A&M baseball and the Aggie fans heading into a new year of college baseball at Blue Bell Park.
