Texas A&M Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has doubled down in the trenches, adding another interior defensive lineman to reinforce a position hit hard by Albert Regis’ departure to the NFL. This time, the Aggies are bringing in a veteran presence to stabilize a young but talented room.
On Monday, On3Sports reported that North Carolina junior transfer CJ Mims committed to Texas A&M. The former Tar Heel chose the Aggies over several other programs and arrives in College Station with one year of eligibility remaining.
Mims was projected to be a key piece of North Carolina’s defensive line rotation and was regarded as one of their more effective pass‑rushing defensive tackles. Their loss becomes the Aggies’ gain at a position of real need entering the 2026 season. Mims appeared in all 12 games and started nine last year, recording 42 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback pressures, and a forced fumble.
With more than 900 career snaps, Mims brings valuable experience to a defensive line room loaded with upside but short on proven veterans. While the staff is excited about the young talent already on the roster, Mims provides a crucial bridge as those players continue to develop.
