Texas A&M is now trending to land elite 2027 5-star CB

Texas A&M’s success on the recruiting trail isn’t surprising for those who have paid attention, as third-year head coach Mike Elko and O-line coach Adam Cushing are now finalists to land 2027 five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews after landing a commitment from fellow five-star interior offensive lineman Kennedy Brown.

Currently sitting at No. 1 in Rivals’ 2027 class rankings, the Aggies’ 12 commitments are all considered blue-chip prospects with bright NFL futures, but according to On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong, one of Texas A&M’s priority prospects, five-star cornerback John Meredith, is now predicted to land with the Texas Longhorns after his recent unofficial visit to Austin this spring.

However, with Meredith now expected to commit to Texas, Wiltfong’s recent article revealed that the veteran analyst is close to changing his prediction from LSU to Texas A&M for five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, who is set to take his official visit to College Station in early June.

“I’m close to moving my prediction from LSU to Texas A&M for five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson. I think that better represents the pulse going into summer official visits. Auburn, LSU and South Carolina remain strongly in the mix and Michigan is another that’s been rising. But Dobson has visited College Station several times, loves the staff, fellow 2027 recruits and the Aggies look to be in the strongest shape.”

John Meredith is currently the No. 2-ranked prospect in the 2027 cycle, while Dobson is ranked 9th, so, from a talent discrepancy, both players are widely considered two of the best cornerback prospects in the cycle. Dobson also stated that, if the Aggies land him, he’d join the “best DB class signed in school history.”

According to Rivals, Dobson is currently positioned as the 9th-ranked prospect, 3rd-ranked cornerback, and the No. 1-ranked prospect in North Carolina.
