As its final act in Conference USA, the UTEP men’s golf team will have a chance to exit as a champion.
The Miners head into Thursday, April 30, semifinals and finals of the 2026 Conference USA Men’s Golf Championship as the No. 1 seed and will play Middle Tennessee in their semifinal match. The finals would be later in the day against either No. 2 New Mexico State or No. 3 Liberty at Texarkana (Ark.) Country Club.
UTEP set itself up on Wednesday, April 29, by holding off New Mexico State and nine other teams in stroke play, which lasted three rounds and was delayed by the weather.
Miners Alexandre Godin and Dylan Teeter were part of a four-way tie for second in medalist standings at -9, two shots behind champion Javier Delgadillo of New Mexico State, an Eastwood alum. Delgadillo birdied holes 15, 16 and 17 to break a tie to win the individual title.
As a team, UTEP spent some of the six-stroke lead it opened up after Tuesday, April 28, second round, but still got in at -31, two strokes ahead of the Aggies. Middle Tennessee and Liberty grabbed the final two semifinal spots for the 11-team conference at -17.
There will be an individual match-play format with the semifinalists going five-on-five.
UTEP’s last CUSA men’s title in any sport came in 2017 when the Miners golf team won the CUSA tournament. The last league title in any sport was the women’s volleyball team’s regular-season CUSA title last fall.
The Miners men’s golf team made an underdog run to the finals at last year’s CUSA Championships, where it was beaten by Sam Houston 3 1/2-1 12 in individual match play.
