Texas A&M HC Bucky McMillan provides several key injury updates

Texas A&M’s open practice on Tuesday afternoon provided Aggie media access to second-year coach Bucky McMillan and several key players, including star transfer shooting guard PJ Haggerty, while McMillan provided several injury updates that will be very important as the 2026-2027 season gets closer.

This offseason, after losing nearly every starter and numerous reserves during McMillan’s inaugural season, Haggerty’s addition provides the offense with a go-to scoring option, while the return of former Indiana transfer forward Mackenzie Mgbako was vital for the Aggies’ front court, which also features Zach Clemence and Jamie Vinson, who will return after transferring to Texas A&M last offseason.

In the transfer portal, one of the Aggies’ seven new additions was Loyola Marymount transfer forward Jalen Shelley, who is slated to be one of McMillan’s five starters, and if his outside shooting improves, he is already one of the top wing defenders who shot over 45% from the field, and provides more size at 6’8″.

First off, McMillan stated on Tuesday that Jalen Shelley, who was dealing with an injury, has been cleared to return to practice, while Mackenzie Mgbako and Zach Clemence will reportedly return in early July, which is important to note given Mgbako’s recent injury history, which will be closely watched this summer.

McMillan also provided an update on former NBA G-League guard Bryson Warren, whose waiver to play for the Aggies next season is reportedly still in flux. McMillan also stated that, regarding the final roster spot, senior guard Marcus Hill, who has yet to receive a waiver to return next season, is the name to watch heading into the fall.
