Texas A&M DL coach currently ranked as the top recruiter in 2027 class

Entering his third season at the helm, coach Mike Elko deserves a ton of credit for building and nearly locking down the Aggies’ No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, which now features rising four-star linebacker Mikahi Allen, who chose A&M over Texas and South Carolina on Saturday. This week, Rivals updated its top 300 rankings, with five-star OT Mark Matthews now ranked No. 2 nationally and five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey at No. 19.

Again, Elko’s focus on strong relationships, communication, and development has aided in all 26 prospects committing, but four of the Aggies’ assistants deserve immense credit for helping secure 14 commits, starting with former star defensive lineman and current co-defensive line coach Tony Jerod-Eddie, who is currently ranked as the No. 1 recruiter in the country with five commitments under his belt.

During his three seasons in College Station, Jerod-Eddie recorded 147 tackles, seven sacks, and five pass deflections. While he went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft, the former starting nose tackle spent four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before entering the coaching ranks, where he has thrived ever since.

In terms of his development prowess, Jerod-Eddie helped develop current Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Bobby Brown III, who signed a three-year, $21 million deal after four successful seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, including a Super Bowl victory in his rookie season.

In the 2027 cycle, Jerod-Eddie is responsible for helping land five-star cornerback Raylaun Henry, four-star defensive lineman Myles Smith, five-star edge Zyron Forstall, four-star defensive lineman Elijah Patmon, and four-star edge Kaden McCarty.
