Fall weather in Texas can look very different depending on where you live.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac recently released its 2026 fall weather predictions, which mostly calls for warmer-than-normal temperatures across much of the state. Rainfall, though, will vary, with some areas expected to be drier than usual and others likely to see above-average precipitation.
When does fall start 2026?
The fall equinox and the first day of autumn arrive on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
What will fall look like in Texas?
Northern Texas and Oklahoma are expected to be slightly cooler than average this fall, with rain up to 4 inches above average, the Almanac predicts. South Texas should be warmer than average in both months, with slightly above-average precipitation.
West Texas is expected to be warm and dry, along with neighboring New Mexico and Arizona. “A warmer-than-average September will be followed by a slightly cooler October. Rainfall is expected to remain below average throughout the fall,” the Almanac writes about the desert southwest region.
