Fresh off an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Texas A&M basketball head coach Bucky McMillan added one of the top scorers in the country to his roster on Thursday.
Kansas State transfer PJ Haggerty joins the Aggies after ranking fourth in the nation in scoring last season. Haggerty started all 31 games and recorded five performances of at least 30 points for the Wildcats, averaging 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists during his senior campaign in Manhattan.

Before the 2025-26 season at Kansas State, Haggerty spent time at TCU, Memphis and Tulsa. He was an integral part of the Memphis’ NCAA Tournament run in 2025, earning second-team All-America honors from The Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and Sporting News.
Following an impressive first season under McMillan, one of the top scoring guards in college basketball will be playing for “Bucky Ball” this year.
Haggerty ranked as the seventh-best transfer portal player in men’s basketball this offseason, according to ESPN, marking one of McMillan’s most impressive additions so far. The 6-foot-4 guard is expected to play an integral role in McMillan’s high-tempo system after Texas A&M lost Pop Isaacs and Rubén Dominguez to the transfer portal.
Here is ESPN’s Jeff Borzello’s evaluation of Haggerty and what he brings to Bryan-College Station:
“Haggerty will head to his fifth school in as many seasons, but he proved at each of his last three stops that he can produce at a high level, averaging 21.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists over the course of his career. He hit career highs in scoring (23.4 PPG) and assists (3.8 APG) at Kansas State in 2025-26.”
The Aggies aim to rebuild and extend their streak of NCAA Tournament appearances to five in 2026-27 after reaching the Round of 32 in McMillan’s first year at the helm.
