For the 14th time in program history, Texas A&M baseball is set to host the Bryan-College Station Regional, with an opportunity to advance to face the winner of the Chapel Hill Regional in the NCAA DI Baseball Super Regionals on the line.
The Aggies completed their 2026 campaign with a 39-14 overall record and 18-11 mark in the Southeastern Conference. They finished third in the conference standings behind Georgia and Texas, while securing 10 Quad 1 victories. Michael Earley and company missed being a top-eight national seed, as the committee handed the Aggies the No. 12 seed in this year’s tournament.
While it would have been a massive advantage for Texas A&M to have an opportunity for regionals and super regionals at Blue Bell Park, Earley’s club has the firepower to compete against any team in college baseball, including those set to visit College Station this weekend.
Here is a preview of the teams the Aggies will be matched up against in the regional and what each brings to Olsen Field:
Texas A&M (39-14)
Earley’s turnaround in his second season at the helm has been outstanding. Texas A&M went from missing the postseason in 2025 to hosting its 14th regional this season. That success has been due in large part to one of the most explosive lineups in the country. The Aggies ranked third in the SEC with a .301 batting average and second with 114 home runs, 23 of which have come from veteran outfielder Caden Sorrell. This squad’s strongest quality resides at the plate, but lingering unknowns on the mound could prove to be costly if the Aggies can’t complete consistent outings.
Lamar (34-25)
The 2026 Southland Conference Tournament champions were given a rematch against Texas A&M to open the College Station Regional, after suffering a 25-5 run-rule loss to the Aggies back on Feb. 24. The Cardinals remain one of the top mid-major programs in college baseball, however. Lamar head coach Will Davis was named the new head coach at Houston this week, but he will remain at the helm of the Cardinals until the conclusion of their NCAA Tournament run. While their performances at the plate have been lackluster at times, Lamar’s pitching duo of Travis Lutz and Chris Oliver sit atop the Southland in ERA this season.
Texas State (36-24)
Texas State could be one of the most underrated teams in the postseason. The Bobcats finished seventh in a stacked Sunbelt Conference in 2026, while securing six Quad 1 wins. They split the non-conference series against Texas A&M, dropping the March 17 contest 9-6 and claiming a 9-8 victory on April 7. Texas State’s statistics don’t jump off the chart, but its lineup features electric hitters like Jaquae Janicki, Manny Salas and Dawson Park, who all rank top-10 in the SBC in home runs this season. The Bobcats rank first in the SBC with 110 home runs, which is 29 more than Southern Miss, which has the second-most in the conference.
USC (43-15)
The Trojans have been excellent in Quad 2, Quad 3 and Quad 4 matchups, but have failed to capitalize on any of their Quad 1 contests, entering postseason play with a 1-11 record against opponents in that category. USC’s biggest strength has been excellent pitching, which finished second as a unit behind the No. 1-seed UCLA Bruins. The team’s 3.48 ERA and 577 strikeouts are the best marks on the mound out of all teams in the Bryan-College Station Regional. That success has been led by Mason Edwards, who boasts a 1.43 ERA and 160 strikeouts, which ranks first in the Big Ten this season.
Double-elimination round matchups
Texas A&M will open the Bryan-College Station Regional against Lamar at 3 p.m. CT on Friday. USC-Texas State will follow at 8 p.m. CT. If the Aggies defeat the Cardinals, they will face the winner of Game 2 for the chance to advance to the regional final.
