No. 5 Texas A&M (5-0, 2-0 SEC) will host a Florida (2-3, 1-1 SEC) team that is coming off a shocking 29-21 home win over the Texas Longhorns, and will now take on what is widely considered the most demanding schedule in the country, start with a night game inside a packed Kyle Field.
While Texas A&M will unveil its 1975 throwback uniforms against the Gators, head coach Mike Elko’s focus is on avoiding excessive penalties after racking up 22 in wins over Auburn and Mississippi State over the last two weeks. If the Aggies can control penalties that kill drives, Texas A&M’s offense should be able to score 30 or more points, despite Florida’s defense being one of the top units in the SEC.
However, this starts and ends with Texas A&M starting quarterback Marcel Reed playing much better in the first half of games. The redshirt sophomore attempted too many deep balls, double-clutching his throws instead of focusing on the middle of the field for short, explosive plays. Still, Texas A&M’s running game, which gained 299 yards against the Bulldogs, will need to establish a rhythm to enhance Reed’s efficiency in the pocket.
For Florida, starting quarterback DJ Lagway, running back Jaden Baugh, and freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson are all talented enough, paired with the defense, to pull off the upset, but have not shown a level of consistency through the first five games.
Ahead of the primetime showdown, here is how the Aggies Wire staff sees things playing out on Saturday night.

So far this season, I’ve only picked against the Aggies once before their Week 3 road test vs. Notre Dame. While I was wrong, I still wasn’t shocked that the defense struggled. Well, two wins later, Texas A&M’s defense has played elite football, led by the emergence of senior edge Cashius Howell as one of the nation’s top pass rushers.
Since scoring 41 points against the Fighting Irish, Texas A&M’s offense has racked up yards, but it has only scored 16 points against Auburn due to 13 penalties. However, they erupted for 24 unanswered points in last Saturday’s 31-9 win over Mississippi State. Still, penalties were an issue, leaving too many points on the field, which cannot be the case against Florida’s stout defense.
On paper, Florida’s 26th-ranked scoring defense and 16th-ranked run defense could make things difficult for the starting quarterback, Marcel Reed, and his backfield to find consistency, but we can say the same on the other side, knowing that Texas A&M’s defense will look to thwart Gators QB DJ Lagway, who has not performed well with pressure in his face.
If both offenses fail to produce explosive plays, this could be a lower scoring game, but outside of freshman wide receiver Dallas Wilson, who emerged for 111 yards and two touchdowns in his collegiate debut, paired with junior running back Jaden Baugh, Texas A&M’s offensive weapons, led by transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver, will be harder to defend for four quarters.
This game has been challenging to predict, but I’ll stick with Texas A&M delivering a performance similar to last weekend’s second-half surge, pulling away later for the win.
Prediction: Texas A&M 28, Florida 21

It’s going to be tough to go undefeated in the SEC, and no game is a gimme, especially with the amount of talent in the conference. Last week was the perfect example when Florida defeated Texas. The Gators have looked out of sync all season long, and while it wasn’t flawless, they put together a complete performance to knock the Longhorns out of the Top 25.
The Aggies, on the other hand, caught fire in the second half and ran away from the Mississippi State Bulldogs to move to 5-0 on the season. It was a rough stretch in the first half, marked by penalties and inconsistent play from Marcel Reed. However, the defense is starting to find its rhythm and was able to hold the Bulldogs at bay while the offense figured things out.
So, this game is going to come down to which teams actually show up on Saturday night—if we get the Florida squad that beat Texas against the A&M team that showed up in the second half, I believe we’ll see a contest that reaches nearly 60 total points.
But considering the way the Aggies’ defense has been performing and their formidable running game, I think A&M will control the clock. Even if they get backed into a corner, they will get a massive play from KC Concepcion or Mario Craver to get them right back in it.
With all that being said, I think the defense continues to roll and holds the Gators under 24 points, while the Aggies’ offense will play three complete quarters to hit 40 points for the first time since beating Notre Dame 41-40. I have the Aggies winning by double digits and moving to 6-0 before heading out on the road for the next few weeks.
Prediction: Texas A&M 42, Florida 21

Texas A&M is hosting a Florida program fresh off a win against the Texas Longhorns in The Swamp. They looked much-improved compared to previous losses against USF, Miami, and LSU. The Aggies heavily recruited quarterback DJ Lagway before eventually signing with Florida, and for good reason.
Lagway is a freakish athlete who could cause headaches for the Aggie defensive unit. However, Florida’s rushing attack ranks 100th in FBS with just 130.2 yards on the ground per contest so far this season, which should be a massive advantage for a continuously improving Texas A&M front. Florida’s defense is nothing to ignore either, as they rank in the top 50 in rush and pass defense in 2025.
If the Aggies want to find success offensively, the penalties in the trenches must be cleaned up this week against a star-studded Gator front. This will be a closely-contested matchup, but with the way Texas A&M’s defense has performed, I like the Aggies to secure their third conference win against the Gators, 27-13 at Kyle Field on Saturday night.
Prediction: Texas A&M 27, Florida 13
