We know the 2027 NFL Draft will be epic for the Texas Longhorns. Most of the early mock drafts project Arch Manning as the No. 1 pick. Three more Longhorns have been projected to go very high in the next NFL draft. A new forecast from CBS Sports predicts Longhorns going with the top two picks.
It is almost a consensus that the No. 1 pick in the 2027 draft will be Manning, even if he has a few things to work on. Most have the New York Jets as the team with the No. 1 pick. Whatever you think about the Jets, Arch would be an even bigger celebrity in New York. He’ll be big wherever he lands, but there a difference between NYC and Phoenix.
While Manning didn’t play as well as some other quarterbacks, looking ahead to the 2027 draft — Dante Moore had a better season — this is a projection. Manning played his best football down the stretch last season, bringing plus mobility for the position, and he will have a much better offensive line and receiver group around him for 2027. Just like his uncles Peyton and Eli, Manning goes No. 1. – Chris Hummer, CBS Sports
CBS Sports projects another Longhorn will be the No. 2 pick in the draft. The mock draft projects Simmons as the second pick to the Miami Dolphins. Of course, Miami loaded up on former Longhorns in the last NFL draft, taking offensive lineman DJ Campbell, EDGE Trey Moore and safety Michael Taaffe earlier today. The trio join former Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers in South Beach.
A dominant edge rusher in the SEC since his arrival as a true freshman in 2024, Simmons is a prototype modern edge rusher with great length and elite explosiveness and speed in pursuit. He’s posted 21 sacks through two seasons and is also a plus run defender. – Chris Hummer, CBS Sports
Two more Longhorns are projected to go in the Top 10. Transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman is tipped to go to the New Orleans Saints with the No. 8 pick in the NFL draft.
If not for Smith’s presence in the 2024 class, Coleman would have been the receiver with generational hype. As it is, he labored for two years at Auburn with subpar QB play, still managing to reel in 93 passes for 1,306 yards and 13 scores. The 6-foot-3, 201-pound Alabama native is a big-play receiver with the knack for the spectacular. – Chris Hummer, CBS Sports
And finally, offensive tackle Trevor Goosby is being forecast to go with the No. 10 pick to the Atlanta Falcons. Goosby could have entered the 2026 NFL Draft, but elected to return to the Forty Acres.
Goosby passed on the 2026 NFL Draft to return to school, turning down what was likely a spot in the first round. The 6-foot-7, 325-pound tackle has massive upside. He’ll have to show a little bit more consistency in his second season as a starter, but he’s got all the traits necessary to be OT1 off the board.
Obviously, the draft order for 2027 is fluid. Both the players and the teams. If the Falcons have the No. 2 pick for example, Goosby could go second in the draft. Much also depends on how the players perform in the fall.
But this is an early indication of what a big year it could be at Texas, but during the season, postseason and beyond to the draft.
