For the first time since April 7 in midweek action against Texas State, Texas A&M baseball suffered a loss at the hands of the Florida Gators in the series opener at Condron Family Ballpark.
The Gators’ dominant 9-2 upset win over the Aggies was due in large part to the lack of success the Maroon and White had at the plate against Aidan King. Florida’s sophomore right-hander struck out six Aggie hitters and allowed just four hits in 8.0 innings of work on the mound. Texas A&M’s two runs in the effort came from infielder Gavin Grahovac, who mashed a two-run home run in the top of the third.
After recording some solid performances over recent weeks, the Aggie bullpen struggled against the Gators. Shane Sdao got the start and allowed eight hits and three earned runs in 3.2 innings before Texas A&M called upon Grant Cunningham to try and get them off the diamond.
Florida was on a mission for a statement win at home, however. With a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth, the Gators loaded the bases and scored three more runs.
Next up, the Aggies will aim to force a rubber match in Game 2 of the series against Florida on Saturday. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.
