This week, U.S. News & World Report released its rankings of the top 2,250 universities worldwide, with several campuses from the Texas Tech University System making the list.
The list considers 13 indicators and weights that measure global research performance and reputation, with several private and public universities in Texas securing spots in the top 500.
While Texas Tech didn’t gain one of those coveted spots, it did move up from its previous year’s ranking.

Texas Tech University
Global Ranking: No. 562 (tie).
Location: Lubbock, Texas.
President: Lawrence Schovanec.
Top three indicators: Regional research reputation (#129), conferences (#511) and total citations (#543).
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
Global Ranking: No. 1,871 (tie).
Location: Lubbock, Texas.
President: Lori Rice-Spearman.
Top three indicators: Regional research reputation (#253), percentage of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited (#644) and percentage of total publications that are among the 10% most cited (#1,288).
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso
Global Ranking: Unranked.
Location: El Paso, Texas.
President: Dr. Richard Lange.
Other rankings: Best Global Universities for Clinical Medicine (#1,212).
Angelo State University
Global Ranking: Unranked.
Location: San Angelo, Texas.
President: Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr.
Other rankings: Best Regional Universities West Rankings (#56), Top Public Universities — Regional Universities West (#29) and Best Value Universities — Regional Universities West (#36).
Midwestern State University
Global Ranking: Unranked.
Location: Wichita Falls, Texas.
President: Stacia Haynie.
Other rankings: Best Regional Universities West Rankings (#77) and Top Public Universities — Regional Universities West (#41).
