San Elizario mayor Miguel Chacon wins re-election

Mayor Miguel Chacon has been re-elected to lead San Elizario.

Voters in San Elizario turned out Saturday, May 2, to cast ballots for mayor and two alderperson positions. Though only 250 ballots were cast in the mayoral election, Chacon walked away with 50% of the vote followed by Vincent C. Jemison at 38% and Robert Aguilar at 12%.

Candidates in the Alderperson Place 4 contest appear poised for a runoff after nobody cleared 50% of the vote. Savannah Alarcon and incumbent Armando Alarcon were the top two vote-getters, at 32% and 31% respectively. Kassandra Caro followed at 20% and Antonio Flores received 16% of the vote.

Thomas Black won a decisive victory in the Alderperson Place 5 contest, nabbing 62% of the vote compared to 38% for Debbie Venegas.

Voters in Anthony also cast ballots Saturday in three alderperson races, though Todd Wolford ran unopposed in the Place 3 contest and Eduardo Chavez ran unopposed in the Place 5 race.

In the Place 4 contest, Joe Garcia toppled Julia Weeks with 55% of the vote.
