After 33 years of keeping Lubbock’s adventurers outfitted, Mountain Hideaway announced it will close soon.
Mountain Hideaway Outdoor Outfitters, 4816 50th St., opened in 1992, selling gear for travelers, from fishing to hiking to climbing. Late Thursday, the owners announced the pending closure on social media.
“Well, this is not the news we wanted to share,” the post stated. “Unfortunately, the winds have changed after 33 years and we will be closing the shop. Outfitting you, raising our family in a small business that loves this community, the amazing teams we’ve been able to work with since 1992 has been an honor.”

The store has started markdowns on inventory and clearing its warehouse. Merchandise, furniture and fixtures will be available for purchase.
Mountain Hideaway will be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, then close from Dec. 24-28. It will return on Dec. 29 with the same hours. A final day of business has not been announced.
