The focus this week is on mothers, leading up to their big day, Mother’s Day Sunday, May 10.

El Paso Zoo offers discount to moms
The El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens is celebrating Mother’s Day with a special discount for moms and a meaningful spotlight on one of nature’s most devoted mothers: the orangutan.
On Sunday, May 10, all mothers, abuelitas and mother figures will receive 20% off adult admission, giving families a special way to celebrate while supporting wildlife conservation.
The Zoo is partnering with the Missing Orangutan Mothers (M.O.M.) campaign to raise awareness about the growing threats facing orangutans in the wild. Native to the islands of Borneo and Sumatra, these critically endangered apes are losing habitat due to deforestation, largely driven by palm oil production and the illegal pet trade, leaving many young orangutans orphaned.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can stop by educational booths located near the orangutan habitat featuring zookeepers, hands-on activities, artifacts, and coloring pages for children. A special orangutan enrichment session will take place at 12:30 p.m., offering guests a closer look at how the Zoo cares for these intelligent primates.
