After some dicey moments in an opening win against the Dominican Republic, Mexico will look to punch its ticket to the knockout stage of the Gold Cup when it takes on Suriname in Arlington, Texas.
The match could be trickier than it looks. Suriname lost its opener to Costa Rica 4-3 as a heavy underdog, and it is again a heavy underdog against a Mexican team that has won this tournament more times (nine) than any other team in the field.
If El Tri can win this in front of what is sure to be a large, pro-Mexico crowd in Texas, it would almost certainly clinch a spot in the quarterfinals heading into its final group game against Costa Rica on Sunday.
What time does Mexico play today in the Gold Cup?

The match between Mexico and Suriname will be televised on FS1 in English and on TUDN and Univision.
Where does Mexico stand in 2025 Gold Cup?
El Tri won its opener, 3-2, against the Dominican Republic, so a victory here would all but clinch a spot in the knockout stage even before they play Costa Rica on Sunday.

Gold Cup prediction, odds for Mexico vs. Suriname
Footballwhispers: Mexico 3, Suriname 1
It writes: “Mexico have a perfect three wins from three against Suriname, and considering they have won their last four competitive matches, we are confident that Javier Aguirre’s troops will claim all the spoils. However, it is also worth mentioning that Suriname have scored in five consecutive games, so we should expect goals at both ends.”
CBS: Mexico 2 Suriname 1
It writes: “Suriname were just minutes away from a group stage upset, so will that be the matchday two motivation they need to pull it off? Perhaps a litmus test for Surname’s rise, it’s also an opportunity for El Tri to silence any doubters after a slower start to their goal scoring and some questionable defense in the group opener. This will hardly be a blowout for either side, but there will be a winner with little room for error.”
SportsMole: Mexico 1, Suriname 0
It writes: These are normally strong defensive units despite what occurred on matchday one, but in the end, we trust the Mexican experience and their resiliency to win the day.”
