The preliminary investigation indicates Dustin Ray Dove, 34, of San Angelo was driving a 2017 GMC Terrain north on U.S. Highway 87 near Fairview School Road, the DPS said.

Jason Richard Ward, 52, of San Angelo was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Trax also going northbound behind the GMC Terrain, the DPS said. Ward failed to control the speed of his SUV and hit the other SUV from behind.

Dove was transported to Shannon Medical Center with minor injuries, the DPS said. Ward was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Randy Harris.

Dove was wearing a seatbelt, the DPS said. Ward was not. The Texas Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
