A man is dead after a shooting occurred at a shopping center on South Staples Street on April 23.
Corpus Christi police officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of South Staples Street at 5:38 p.m. in reference to a shooting, according to an online post by the police department.
Officers found an adult man with a gunshot wound and began administering first aid. Medics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Preliminary investigation by detectives suggested that a possible robbery had occurred and a weapon was produced.
Multiple people, including the suspected shooter, were detained by officers. Witnesses were transported to the Corpus Christi Police Main Station to be interviewed.
As of April 24, the Corpus Christi Police Department had not announced an arrest and the victim had not been identified. Officers said the shooting was an isolated incident and the investigation is active.
