The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees this week approved the appointment of Sara Alvarez as the new principal of Centennial Elementary School.
Alvarez has served as assistant principal at Centennial since 2019.
Alvarez began her teaching career at Harwell Elementary School and brings more than 20 years of experience to Lubbock ISD, where she has served as teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal, according to a news release from LISD. She is known for her tenacity in supporting educators, a passion for student learning, and a commitment to families of her school.
“I’m extremely happy for you and Centennial and Lubbock ISD.” Rollo said. “We know that good things are going to happen and continue to happen at Centennial.”
Alvarez holds a bachelor’s of science in human development from Texas Tech, where she graduated summa cum laude. She also holds a master’s degree in education administration from Lamar University. Her background has allowed her to craft leadership opportunities on her campus improving personnel morale and resulting in reduced turnover. She has also designed and facilitated data driven instruction to improve student performance and growth.
“It is a privilege to continue serving a district that has been such an important part of my life for the last 24 years.” said Alvarez. “Centennial is a place I love dearly. It’s a special place full of dedicated educators, supportive families, and most importantly inspiring students that motivate me daily.”
