Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class rises to No. 1 in ESPN's rankings

Texas A&M’s 2027 recruiting class has continued to earn national praise after landing its fourth five-star commit, as elite offensive tackle Mark Matthews chose the Aggies over Georgia, LSU, and the Miami Hurricanes, while coach Mike Elko and his staff will begin hosting a long list of 2027 targets/commits for official visits, starting this weekend.

With 14 commitments, A&M’s 2027 cycle is already the No. 1-ranked class in the 247Sports and Rivals rankings, and as of this weekend, ESPN’s updated rankings now have the Aggies atop the standings and now possess the No. 1 class according to all three major recruiting outlets.

For those who have not paid attention, Texas A&M’s 2027 class is a perfect blend of blue-chip talent and versatility, especially in the offensive and defensive trenches. This weekend, No. 1-ranked safety and five-star Kamarui Dorsey shut down his recruitment, followed by four-star edge Kaden McCarty shutting down his recruitment on Sunday, as both players are expected to sign with the program in early December.

ESPN writer Craig Haubert summed it up perfectly, detailing several of the Aggies’ commits who fit the program’s offensive/defensive scheme and culture, which directly led to Mike Elko becoming one of the top recruiters in the country.

While five-star edge Zyron Forstall leads the pack as the cycle’s highest-ranked recruit and the program’s next star pass rusher, Haubert noted every other key defender who will serve as a future starter with NFL potential.

“Kaden McCarty is a defender with a bit of ‘tweener build, but he can add speed and range off the edge. The secondary is set to get a major infusion of talent with length and physicality. At 6-3 with 4.52 speed, Kamarui Dorsey is a versatile safety who can support the run, play man coverage, anticipate in zone and create turnovers, all while serving as a vocal on-field leader. Corner Raylaun Henry brings a great frame, smooth pedal and fluid hips with natural ball skills, while fellow DB JayQuan Snell is a long-striding defender with range, hands and a tackler’s mindset.”

On offense, four-star quarterback Jayce Johnson continues to rise as one of the best future signal callers due to his impressive arm strength and touch, and will likely be playing in front of an offensive line featuring Mark Matthews, Kennedy Brown, Kaeden Scott, and DeMarrion Johnson.

Offensively, they are building an O-line unit that could be impactful. Kaeden Scott (6-7, 285) and DeMarrion Johnson (6-5, 295) are four-star additions, but they have also brought five-stars Kennedy Brown and Mark Matthews into the mix. Brown possesses elite arm length with 35-inch arms and bends well, while Matthews is agile with good body quickness. on the line, They have landed QB Jayce Johnson, a tall, strong-armed passer with Cardale Jones-type stature who moves well and has responded well to demanding coaching. Athlete Hakim Frampton is a flexible player who can help on offense, defense or special teams, though he projects to the secondary in College Station.

Hakim Frampton could play wide receiver, running back, or cornerback, but looks like a CB with the Aggies at this time. This is just the start, knowing that five-star cornerbacks Joshua Dobson and John Meredith will take their official visits over the next two weekends, followed by several fellow blue-chip prospects taking OVs over the next month.
