As the Longhorns look to add to their 2027 class, they got a welcoming update on Monday morning. Five-star recruit John Meredith III narrowed his list down to three teams and included the Longhorns. The news comes just days before Meredith’s commitment date, set for June 19th.
While the field has narrowed, two other elite programs are still in the running. Those programs are Alabama and Texas A&M. Both schools have had various degrees of success and would get a massive boost with Meredith in the mix. Their interest comes as no surprise, given how scouts view the North Crowley High star.
Currently, Meredith is ranked as the best cornerback in his class by 247Sports. They also list the Longhorns’ target as the best player from the Lone Star State and the fourth-best player in the nation. Before cutting his list down to three, Meredith had received offers from Ohio State, Miami, Auburn, Arizona State, LSU, and Michigan.
If Meredith were to commit to the Longhorns, he would be part of a 2027 class held in high regard. Head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have secured commitments from one five-star recruit in wide receiver Easton Royal. He will be joined by four-star recruits Kasi Currie, Cameron Hall, Karnell James, Brock Williams, and Derwin Fields.
During his high school career, Meredith has also been busy adding to his trophy case. He participated in the 2006 Under Armor All-America Game, recording one interception and one tackle. That helped grab the attention of scouts looking for an elite corner.
Over the next few days, the Longhorns will be a team to watch as anticipation builds. On Friday, they will then know if another elite corner will call Austin home starting next year.
