As the Longhorns look to add to their 2026 class, they have been connected to some of the best prospects in the country. That includes four-star tight end Zachery Turner, who recently cut his list to six programs. The Longhorns were one of the programs to make that list, with his commitment date set for July 12.
Over the next few weeks, the goal for Texas will be to convince Turner that Austin is the best place for him to begin his college career. They will face competition from Miami, Pittsburgh, SMU, Oklahoma, and Ole Miss. He has visited every school on his final list except for Texas. That has not stopped the Longhorns from being a factor with decision day around the corner.
The heavy interest in Turner is no surprise, given what he did this past season. The Duncanville High School product added 933 receiving yards and 16 receiving touchdowns to his resume. While Duncanville fell short of their uptime goal, Turner has been adding to his trophy case. That includes state championships in 2022 and 2023.
Currently, Turner is ranked as the 19th-best tight end in his class by 247Sports. He has improved every year during his high school career with no signs of slowing down. That is partly why some notable programs like Texas are battling for his services.
If Turner were to pick Texas, he would join a talented 2026 class. The Longhorns have already secured commitments from five-star prospects, including Dia Bell and German Bishop. They will be joined by four-star prospects Richard Wesley, Vodney Cleveland, Corey Wells, and Dylan Berymon.
With a lot of good options on the table, Turner has a lot to consider before deciding where to start the next chapter of his football journey.
