Deck Plaza will improve quality of life, for whom?
City Council Rep. Lily Limon is the only individual with any common sense when it comes to the Downtown Deck Plaza. She can foresee the adverse financial conditions it will inflict on our city. How can we move forward on a project when we don’t even know its final cost?
It is said that this project will improve quality of life, how and for whom? Will it attract tourists and to what degree? Where will the parking be? What will the annual cost be to maintain it? How will the I-10 traffic be dealt with?
Let’s look at other city projects, The 12 Travelers Project is an ongoing long-term project, where it seems that some of the travelers are lost in the Chihuahuan desert. The Duranguito project, where individuals were forced out of their homes, what’s it future? Where’s the Downtown Arena Project at?
Let’s put it to a vote and if it passes and when future funds are needed tax only the individuals that voted yes and not the ones that voted no.

“It’s ugly; it’s a distraction,” Northeast eyesore needs to go
There is a recent addition to the sights in the Northeast as one drives along Railroad Drive and comes upon the intersection with Diana Drive. It’s something that anyone could not possibly miss. It’s a monstrosity that can’t help but catch your eye. It’s one of those long, boxlike, cargo containers that often go on and on as we wait for a train to pass.
Somebody had the bright idea of transplanting one from the train to our busy intersection to advertise their shipping containers. As Mammy says in Gone With the Wind, “It just ain’t fittin’…ain’t fittin’.” It’s ugly; it’s a distraction; it’s already getting tagged with graffiti; and I don’t appreciate that our neighborhood has been defaced with such a distasteful eyesore of an advertisement. Who in our city government gave permission for this asininity? It needs to go!

BTS experience infuriating for visitor
El Paso hosted BTS, a historic moment for the city. What I could not help noticing was how awful the management was particularly regarding disability and maternity.
I arrived at the venue early and parked at the garage next to the Haskins Center. Parking was shockingly only $20, however, as I stepped outside the garage, a lot for ADA vehicles had a price of $40. It was disheartening to see the venue strive to make an extra buck from those with a disability.
Then the line for the venue was poorly managed. A pregnant woman I was near was told to get to the back of the line, which forced her on a lengthy walk. There was no hesitation by security to boot her to the very back.
I am not from Texas, but I have traveled all over and never witnessed something so infuriating.
