With LeBron James’ future uncertain, the Los Angeles Lakers have been scouting possible fits beside star guard Luka Doncic as the team continues to build around the Slovenian. According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Tari Eason of the Houston Rockets is on that list. The Lakers got an extended look at Eason in the first round of the 2026 NBA playoffs, as both teams squared off in a six-game series.
Eason is viewed by Los Angeles as a “3-and-D” type player who could add more depth and defense to their frontcourt. Last year, Eason averaged 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.5 blocks while shooting 35.8% from 3-point range. While Los Angeles’ interest in Eason may be faint at the moment, their ability to pry him away from Houston will depend on how much money they spend on Austin Reaves and the aforementioned James. Other players to be considered by the Lakers this summer include Peyton Watson (Nuggets), Jalen Duren (Pistons) and Walker Kessler (Jazz).
