Key candidates, voting dates, what’s at stake in El Paso’s 2026 election

Early voting is underway for the midterm primary and El Pasoans have a wide slate of candidates to choose from in county races.

While a number of big state and federal races will dominate the ballot, including the Texas governor and a coveted U.S. Senate seat, local races will also be decided, including county judge, two El Paso County Commissioners Court seats, and several judgeships.

Many races, however, will not be contested on the primary ballot. If a Democrat or Republican is not facing a challenge from a member of their own party, as in multiple local races, they move directly to the November ballot.

Here is a list of key primary candidates in El Paso, along with other essential voting information.

When is the primary election?

The midterm primary will take place on Tuesday, March 3. Also known as Super Tuesday, the day when nearly half of the country votes, the election is crucial for federal candidates.

Early voting in El Paso runs from Tuesday, Feb. 17, through Friday, Feb. 27.

Who can vote in the primary?

All registered voters in El Paso County are eligible to cast a ballot in their party’s primary on Super Tuesday.

Who’s on the ballot?

Following is a breakdown of some of the key races that will appear on the primary ballots for each party:

County Judge

County Commissioner, Precinct 2

County Commissioner, Precinct 4

168th District Court Judge

171st District Court Judge

205th District Court Judge
