Cowboys Headlines: Ring of Honor plea for 13-year star; Caleb Downs emulating… OBJ???

When asked to name the next Cowboy worthy of the team’s Ring of Honor, most fans would name Jason Witten, Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, or maybe even Tony Romo. It might take a while going down a list of franchise greats for the modern fan, though, to get to Cornell Green. But that’s exactly who former NFL player and longtime front office exec John Wooten is lobbying Dallas to add. The 89-year-old makes the case for Green, the five-time Pro Bowler (at two different positions) who was the toughest opponent he remembered from his Browns’ annual battles with the Cowboys. How tough? Green never missed a game in 13 seasons. Leading today’s headlines, Tim Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News offers a fascinating look back at a distant era of pro football and one trailblazer who’s trying to make sure another isn’t soon forgotten.

Elsewhere in Cowboys Nation, rookie Caleb Downs reveals the surprising reason he says he’ll stay in the No. 13 jersey… but will Cowboys fans still love him if they know he’s paying tribute to Odell Beckham Jr.? Dallas loses out on a possible linebacker additon as the Lions re-sign Jack Campbell, Patrick Crayton says Jerry Jones has a serious grudge against George Pickens’s agent thanks to the Micah Parsons fiasco, and would Alvin Kamara look good in the star if he’s freed up?
