Job scams are doubling. How to spot the red flags

The Better Business Bureau warns job scams have doubled since last year in a media release Thursday.

Task-based scams are the lasted tactic being used against job seekers who are offered high pay to “like” and “subscribe” to online videos, the media release said.

BBB’s Scam Tracker reported over 50,000 people have fallen victim to an employment scam, with reports in 2025 doubling over the previous year.

Hundreds of those complaints involved task-based schemes where crooks impersonated popular companies. Median losses have shrunk since 2023, but the average victim’s loss remains high at $1,000.
