Yesterday was a day full of stress for the Longhorns fanbase, awaiting the news around Trevor Goosby. As more information came out, the blood pressure around the Texas fanbase went down. According to Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods, Goosby is slated to miss just 2-3 weeks and is likely to return against Ohio State.
That means Texas will need a replacement for the Texas State game and it seems Andre Cojoe is the leader in the clubhouse.
We broke down different options for the starting OL with Goosby yesterday and Cojoe moving to LT didn’t occur to me. It’s unlikely that would’ve been Sarkisian’s move if Goosby’s absence was going to linger for longer. Given he’s just missing one game, Cojoe at left tackle seems to be a fair solution. However, it does make the next two weeks for Cojoe(and the OL as a whole) very important.
To me, Cojoe at LT is the cleanest solution. Not only do you make just one change to the starting group, but you keep the entire right side intact. This unit needs as much cohesion as possible before the Ohio State game and keeping Robertson-Baker-Siani next to each other is a step towards that. At left guard, Seymore is sidelined with a minor injury, which allows Sikorski to step in with the starting unit. Finding an answer next to Cojoe this week could help the left side’s cohesion come Week One.
Cojoe seemed to be up for the challenge at yesterday’s practice, but there will be a drop-off from him to Goosby. However, given the timeline of Goosby’s return and the ability Cojoe brings to the table, this is a solution I can get on board with. The next few weeks will be important to making sure inserting Goosby is seamless after the Texas State game.
The Longhorn nation will be watching Goosby’s recovery closely, but inside sources seem very confident he’ll be out there for the Ohio State game. That’s as good of news as Texas could’ve gotten and it gives a veteran like Cojoe a chance to make his first career start for the Longhorns.
